9th World Tamil Conference To Be Held In Coimbatore In 2010

The 9th World Tamil Conference is slated to be held in Kovai, during January-February, 2010. The last World Tamil Conference was held in Thanjavur during the regime of Jayalalitha-led AIADMK in 1995. The 9th meet is being held after Tamil was acknowledged as a classic language by the Central Government.
 
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi mentioned that this decision was adopted at the two-day District Collectors' conference held in Chennai.
 
Karunanidhi mentioned that focus will be more on the new aspects of the linguistics which are happening across the world. He added that steps for making Tamil flexible fro incorporating changes will also be taken during the conference.
 
He mentioned that the second World Tamil Conference was held in 1967, the first DMK chief Minister, CN Annadurai, following which other chief ministers like M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa also conducted this meet.
